Is it possible to see baba as a tragic hero
The "Kite Runner" could be seen with many tragic heroes but only one that fits these standards. That would be Amir. He is born into a very well respected family or just born into the family with a dad. He has an almost perfect life until the winter day in He had seen Hassan get raped in front of his own eyes and he did not do anything to stop it. This scene showed to Amir that he was a coward. He did not do anything to stop it and this would make him a tragic hero because he later finds out that he is actually the brother of Hassan.
This is tragic but it does not make him any kind of tragic hero. Amir comes to a downfall after the rape scene. He wants to let go of him because he feels guilty. He keeps falling after the part he puts money under Hassan's bed and his watch to. Ali and Hassan leave after that and Amir realizes he is becoming lonely.
He says he becomes a insomniac and that would be through the tragedy he had seen a few years ago. Later he has a good life in America but out of nowhere his father dies.
He goes back to Afghanistan to get his new found nephew, Sohrab. He finds him and Assef shows up and Amir and Assef fight and Amir gets trampled. This gives the reader the feeling that Amir deserved it.
Later Sohrab goes into a life threatening state and Amir feels helpless. Much later Sohrab is better but still unhappy with life and in the end he ends up in America and he shows a little smile. This is how Amir is shown as a Tragic Hero.
Thats because he had gone through so much. Jan 27, PM. In the book "The Kite Runner" I think that Amir could be considered a modern tragic hero since he's gone through and done so much. After that tragic day when Hassan got raped, Amir didn't help him but instead watched in horror. He now had a secret that he told no one. This secret ended up killing him with guilt. This caused him to destroy his relationship with Hassan.
Years later, he recieves a call from Rahin Khan, his old friend, on how to be good again. Now Amir tries to mend his ways by going back to Afghanistan and rescue Hassan's son, Sohrab. During his journey he realizes the many mistakes he made, the lies that he never knew unraveled by Rahim Khan, and his atonement to Hassan. Okonkwo wasn't born of noble stature, but he ended up rising to it. His rise to this power was amazing, but in the end he lost it all.
In my opinion, Amir was the tragic hero in The Kite Runner. I say this because even though Amir watched Hassan get raped, he redeemed himself by taking Sohrab to America. The fact that he did that made him a "hero" but the fact that through his life he made so many mistakes including watching Hassan get raped made him a "tragic hero". Okonkwo from Things Fall Apart was another example of a tragic hero in the books we've read. He worked his entire life on becoming great yet one event changed everything for him and in the end he killed himself.
Okonkwo was well-known and a very good role model to the people of his village except for a few incidents. He was like their "hero". In the end he was a "tragic hero" because of what he did. In the Kite Runner, first the tragedy occurred and then redemption which created the "hero". Yet in Things Fall Apart the tragedy came after the "hero" part. Jan 28, PM. He is going to berried himself in those lies that are not revealed and they would take his own life if he keeps lying.
When Amir and Baba went to America and they discovered that Baba was going to die and then days later he died. Amir discovered that they were brothers and he got angry at his father for keeping this secret and not telling Amir and Hassan that they were more than just friends. In things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe the tragic hero is Okonkwo and at the end he suicide himself and was a cowered of taking his own life.
Additionally Baba is worst than Okonkwo because he was not forgiven by Amir and Hassan and he lied to them both. However the worst part is lying to your own children and not telling them the truth. I believe the tragic hero in the kite runner is Baba. I say that because Baba started off real powerful and wealthy. Throughout the book he became less powerful and less wealthy doing things he never expected to do, or I should say reader never accepted to do. Throughout the book he was very strong but he got weaker, soon he does stuff to redeem himself too and slowly he starts to fall.
To compare Baba to Okonwoo there are many similarities. Like the fact they both are stubborn and stick to what they believe is right and die trying. Also they both die but through different ways.
Jan 29, AM. In Hosseini's book the "Kite Runner" the tragic hero would be Amir. Amir grew up rich and living large because his dad was a man who everyone had respect for and who everyone admired. Amir's fall began when he watched Hassan get raped in the alley.
He was dying from the guilt. With this came consequences which were Hassan and Amir's relationship ended and Hassan and Ali left Amir's house. When Amir gets a call from Rhaim Khan saying that "there is a way to be good again", Amir goes back to Afghanistan where it all went wrong and where he was going to make it all go good. Amir finds Hassan's son and brings him to America. Amir realizes how much he loves Hassan because of how much he fought for Hassan's son.
In this other novel Oknokwo was can be also considered a tragic hero. Although Oknokwo wasn't born into a noble life he worked his way to it. After years of trying to make himself a noble he ended up killing "one of his sons" Ikemafuna. His fall started here.
From all the guilt he had from all the things he had done in his life he ended up taking his life. I would consider Oknokwo a more tragic hero then Amir because Oknokwo's guilt got to him and he ended up hanging himself on his tree in his backyard.
Jan 29, PM. I strongly believe that Amir fits the category of being a tragic hero. Even though he wasn't the best person in the world for what had happened to Hassan, he still went from being at the top to the very bottom. Amir showed himself as a tragic hero because he is the son of one of Afghanistan wealthy businessmen, who then fell as a struggling immigrant in the United States.
He also fits the category because when he goes back to Kabul to save Sohrab from being another victim of Assef, he then takes the responsibility of brining him safely to America.
He started from the top then ended up at the bottom in his own gave. The was no redemption nor forgiveness for him. Feb 01, AM. His downfall was when Hassan got raped but didn't do anything to stop it.
He was young and cowardice. Little did Amir know, Hassan knew he saw what was going on and didn't try to stop it. Like every tragic hero though, he did an act of justice, and saves Hassan's son, Sohrab, from his childhood bully, Assef.
In the process of saving Sohrab, Assef tells Amir, "You have to earn him. The fight ends when Sohrab threatens Assef to stop with his slingshot just like his father , but this time Sohrab lets go. Even though Amir could not be redeemed for his actions from the past, what he did was an act of bravery which showed that he grew up from his past and was not going to repeat his mistakes.
He got beat for his belief and his willingness to save his nephew. Whereas Okonkwo, he killed himself when the going got tough instead of sticking it out and fighting. Okonkwo never finished what he started. That is why I believe Amir is more of a tragic hero than Okonkwo. Feb 02, PM. I believe so because, he was a very rich man compared to others in Kabul. At first, he treated Amir as if he was ashamed of him , however, it is possible that he realized that was a mistake of his after the Taliban had taken over his homeland.
This might have been the cause for his redemption, in which he started atoning for his sins and how he neglected Amir. Though, he may have tried to compensate for his wrongdoings, he still received punishment. He later got lung cancer and was slowly killed by it.
Baba was a very wealthy man, he had american products, no one in Kabul had any u. Baba was also famous in a way because everyone in Kabul knew him, respected him, and thanked him for all the good he has brought to them by donations and other good deeds.
His fall occurs not because of hubris but because all the money he was basically throwing away to everyone. Towards the ending of the novel Baba dies becuase of a lung cancer caused by smoking, he went from being a powerful man to loosing everything, moving to san fransico with his son, to dying in his sleep.
In my opinion Baba was a tragic hero in the book. Feb 03, PM. He is born into a wealthy family and could have anything any kid wanted. After witnessing Hassan getting raped by Assef, Amir becomes stuck with the thought that only he knew what had happened and he did nothing to help. He goes through a lot of hard work and gets pummeled by Assef in trying to fight him for Sohrab. In the end Amir ends up taking Sohrab to America to live with him and his wife. This is a very important quote because this is one of the reasons he had killed himself.
Since Okonkwo could not turn the clan around due to the fact it was falling apart, he commits suicide. Okonkwo was a more of a tragic hero than Amir. Feb 06, PM. Feb 08, PM. In the book, Amir was full of hubris in the beginning; he thought that he was better than Hassan because of Hassan being a servant. Therefore when Hassan was being raped by Assef, Amir fear towards Assef and his feeling towards Hassan stopped him from doing anything. Amir starts to feel remorseful about what happened to Hassan.
This is when he begins his journey in becoming a tragic hero. Amir never forgives himself after that day. Even when Hassan forgave him, he couldn't forgive himself. Later on in the book, Amir goes back to Afghanistan when he finds Sohrab, Hassan's son; he tries to redeem himself by taking Sohrab in. When Assef tries to stop Amir, Amir fights Assef, this proves that he moved on and left beginning to leave his childhood behind. It is, in a way questioning the existence of life itself and what one does in the course of it.
Is a sin committed a sin at all? Who defines what we do into good and bad? What would you if could fix a mistake you made in the past?
Would you go out of your to change it, or let the past be the past? In works of literature, sometimes a character has to deal with a problem that can conflict with their responsibilities. A character will make a mistake in the past and work hard to try and fix it later on, but it can interfere with their responsibilities in life at that time.
They have to make a decision to either go out of their way and fix that mistake or carry on with their normal life. Guilt is an emotion that comes from believing one was responsible for a particular mistake whether the assessment was accurate or not.
One feels guilty when there is a feeling of responsibility for an action one regrets. Barker, Guilt and Shame. Throughout the story Amir is pressured to be like Baba when he was a kid. The problem arises that he is not athletic like Baba was and would rather read and write.
In this scene. A character who seeks to redeem himself in a world where there can be good. Perhaps it represents a longing for something out of reach or something more symbolic such as an emotion. This is significant because the reason why Amir wants to win the kite competition is to impress Baba and only Baba, which is the cause of the conflict that happened to Hassan.
Instead, he chose to run away because of his own selfish needs. Even though Hassan has defended Amir, even when he is getting sexually assaulted, Amir does not do the same. Regardless of Amir having the choice to make the right decision, Amir had committed mistakes in his actions leading to the guiltiness haunting him and not receiving what he desires. Throughout all of what Amir had experienced, he had received wisdom and knowledge from what he had experienced, regaining balance.
Amir had fought Assef in exchange for saving Sohrab. He had felt at peace since fighting Assef symbolized his redemption, indirectly to Hassan. Amir had felt as if he redeemed himself from what he had to Hassan. By saving Sohrab, demonstrated Amir had proven to overcome his challenges. He had no longer shown selfishness since he risked his own life to save another.
His selfishness had faded away. But that will never happen again, and I am so profoundly sorry. Amir is stating his regrets in ways of apologizing to Sohrab, although his intention could possibly be for Hassan. He takes the opportunity he can, including, wanting to adopt Sohrab and care for him since he feels that it was the least he could do for the pain that haunted himself and Hassan.
