How do chaos weapons scale

Chaos Ascension in Dark Souls Adds Fire Damage and Humanity bonus based on the humanity you hold that increases per upgrade level but has no physical stat scaling.

Fire damage increases per upgrade level slightly higher than base physical damage. This is also recommended for low level players with low stats. Also to note fire has split fire and physical damage while chaos has more fire than pysical damage. So fire will do better in a place like demon ruins while chaos will do more against enemies weak to magic. Enchanted weapons have even higher scaling with Intelligence than Magic weapons, but curbs Dexterity and Strength parameter bonuses more severely.

Chaos will do less damage when you are using a strength build. The Chaos path adds Fire Damage to a weapon, but removes all stat scaling bonuses. This makes it a good choice for lower levels. However, Chaos cannot be augmented. Raw, Heavy, Sharp, Refined, and Hollow infused weapons can be buffed. Deep, Fire, Chaos, Magic, Dark, lightning, bleed, and poisons weapons cannot be buffed. Chaos blade is pretty much the best katana in the game.

When two handing all the katanas with 27 strength, 40 dex, and 10 humanity, the Chaos Blade only does 30 more damage than the Uchigatana. Also the Uchigatana and Iaito have better movesets, and plus they are buffable which makes them do more damage anyways. Furysword is better for the time until you get better weapons though. Chaos blade is basically a trophy weapon. The Chaos Blade drains 20 HP from its wielder with each successful attack, making it one of the only weapons that can kill its wielder.
