What does watchers mean on ebay

I had 24 watchers on a buy it now with best offer used Zara dress the other day. I can understand watchers on auctions and to a degree on sellers who have listings with multiple brand new items so that there is no huge rush to buy. My Zara dress was a bit different, not current stock - might be tricky to find another in same style in your size. After a short while someone bought it. I know you used to be able to - although for the life of me i can't figure out why people get so bent out of shape over it!
